WHAT ARE OVAL CITY STICKERS?
A short history of the creation of Oval City Stickers:
Oval city stickers have come a long way from their European origins. In 1969 the United Nations devised an ID system using stickers to identify a vehicle's country of origin (many European license plates look similar). The letters on these European oval stickers indicated the car's country.
These 'euro stickers' were required to be composed of between one and three capital letters. The letters were to be black on a white background on a horizontal oval sticker.
European style stickers in North America have the same simple block letters of the original Euro ovals, but since the stickers aren't used to indicate country codes the designs will often be embellished. North American stickers sometimes have smaller text indicating what the initials stand for, web addresses, and colors. North American versions include oval city stickers as well as oval state stickers.
